Padres' Mike Clevinger: Efficient in no-decision
Clevinger struck out five in seven innings while allowing two runs on six hits and a walk in a 6-4 extra-inning victory Tuesday in Detroit. He did not factor into the decision.
Clevinger cruised through the first six innings, holding the Tigers scoreless and scattering three hits and a walk. Miguel Cabrera led off the seventh with a double and Jeimer Candelario followed with a two-run homer. Clevinger needed just 92 pitches to complete the seven frames. It was the fourth time in his last five outings where he pitched at least six innings. For the season, he now has a solid 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 53:16 K:BB in 53.1 innings across 11 appearances. His next start will likely be early next week against Colorado.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Handed tough-luck loss
Clevinger (2-3) took the loss during Sunday's 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in six innings.
Clevinger was the first to flinch in what was a pitcher's duel with Arizona starter Merrill Kelly, surrendering a solo shot to David Peralta in the sixth that proved enough to saddle him with a third straight loss. Despite the defeat, the 31-year-old struck out a season-high eight batters with an impressive 16 swinging strikes and delivered only his second quality start in nine turns. Clevinger concludes an injury-plagued first half with a 3.50 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 48 strikeouts in 46.1 innings across nine starts and 10 appearances.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Loses to Rockies on Tuesday
Clevinger (2-2) allowed four runs on five hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out four over 5.1 innings as he took the loss versus the Rockies on Tuesday.
Clevinger allowed just one hit through the first four innings, but the Rockies got to him for a run in the fifth before Charlie Blackmon swatted a three-run home run in the sixth. Both of Clevinger's losses this season have come in his last two starts, and they're also the only outings in which he's allowed four runs. The right-hander is at a 3.79 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 40:13 K:BB through 40.1 innings in nine appearances (eight starts). He'll take those numbers into the second half of the campaign, as the Padres' six-man rotation makes it unlikely Clevinger will start again before the All-Star break.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Dealt first defeat
Clevinger (2-1) was charged with the loss Tuesday versus the Mariners after surrendering four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks across six innings.
Clevinger allowed only a solo homer to Sam Haggerty through the first three frames, but Seattle struck for three runs on three hits and a walk during the fourth inning. It was the first time through eight outings this year the right-hander gave up more than three runs in an appearance, though he was still able to keep the Friars within striking distance. Clevinger has a 3.34 ERA and 1.14 WHIP for the year and tentatively lines up to take the mound early next week in Colorado.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Allows just one hit in win
Clevinger (2-0) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out six.
Clevinger turned in a vintage performance in his second start (third appearance) back from the COVID-19 injured list, inducing 14 swinging strikes on 86 pitches. The right-hander made two prior trips to the IL this season before the COVID stint -- first for a knee injury and then a triceps issue. He's been limited to 29 innings so far as a result, after missing all of last year following Tommy John surgery.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Sharp in return to rotation
Clevinger didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.
Making his first start since June 5, Clevinger tossed 50 of 81 pitches for strikes before exiting, and his only real mistake resulted in a solo shot by Alek Thomas. The veteran right-hander has a 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB through 23 innings over six appearances (five starts) this season, and while the Padres will continue to treat him with kid gloves in his return from Tommy John surgery in 2020, he should be able to pitch long enough to qualify for a win in his next outing.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Scheduled to start Wednesday
Clevinger is scheduled to start Wednesday against Arizona, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Clevinger worked in relief in his first outing back from the COVID-19 injured list, giving up two runs on five hits across two innings of work against the Rockies on Friday. The plan was seemingly always to have him return to the rotation as soon as possible, however, so he'll start Wednesday in the spot that had belonged to Joe Musgrove, who's on the COVID-19 injured list himself.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Tosses two relief innings Friday
Clevinger allowed two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two over two relief innings against Colorado on Friday.
Clevinger was activated from the COVID-19 injured list earlier in the day, and he came into the contest in the fifth inning after starter MacKenzie Gore was roughed up for eight runs in four-plus frames. Clevinger had his own struggles, yielding four straight hits that resulted in two runs to begin the sixth inning. This was the right-hander's first appearance on a big-league mound since June 15 and just his second outing over the past month. With Joe Musgrove landing on the COVID-19 IL on Friday, Clevinger will presumably be in line for a start against either Arizona or Philadelphia next week.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Returns from injured list
Clevinger was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday.
Clevinger has had a very disrupted season in his first year back from Tommy John surgery. A knee injury prevented him from making his season debut until early May, and he returned to the injured list with a strained triceps after making just three starts. He made it back from that injury for just a single start before hitting the COVID-19 injured list last weekend. He's back again after a relatively brief absence and will try to finally find some consistency on the mound. It's unclear when he'll next take the hill, as Nick Martinez and Blake Snell are pencilled in for the two weekend starts at Coors Field.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Placed on COVID-19 injured list
Clevinger was placed on the COVID-19-related injured list Saturday.
It's unclear if Clevinger tested positive for the virus, but regardless, he will not be available for either end of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Goes three innings in return
Clevinger (triceps) allowed a run on one hit and two walks with five strikeouts in three innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Sunday.
Clevinger was eased back into action, throwing 60 pitches (36 strikes) in his first start since May 17. He allowed a leadoff homer to Kolten Wong in the first inning and nothing more before Nick Martinez delivered four frames of relief pitching. Clevinger has managed a 3.18 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB in 17 innings across four starts this year after missing all of 2021 to Tommy John recovery. The right-hander should see a slightly lighter workload with the Padres likely to roll a six-man rotation after the breakout of MacKenzie Gore. Clevinger is expected to make his next start at home versus the Rockies next week.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Activated ahead of Sunday's start
Clevinger (triceps) was activated from the injured list ahead of his start Sunday against the Brewers, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
His most recent big-league start (May 17) was his best start of the season, as he struck out five over five scoreless innings of one-hit ball in Philadelphia. Clevinger's triceps strain didn't sideline him long enough for him to need a rehab start.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: On track to return Sunday
Clevinger (triceps) is in line to come off the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Brewers in San Diego, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Clevinger looks to be on track to return from the shelf in the near-minimum amount of time after he was placed on the IL on May 22 with a strained right triceps. The right-hander will rejoin the big-league rotation without requiring a minor-league rehab assignment beforehand, but the Padres could ease him back into the mix Sunday with a lighter workload than usual. Assuming the Padres keep a six-man rotation in place when Clevinger returns, Nick Martinez is likely to move back to the bullpen.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Expected back next week
Clevinger (triceps) is expected to start the final game during San Diego's series against Milwaukee that begins June 2, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
When Clevinger was placed on the injured list May 22, there was some concern that the right-hander could be out longer than the minimum 15 days since the triceps issue affected the same arm on which he underwent Tommy John surgery last season. However, it appears that the move to the IL was mostly precautionary, as Clevinger is slated to be activated when he is eligible. Upon his return, the Padres could either keep MacKenzie Gore in a starting role and deploy a six-man rotation or move Gore back to the bullpen.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Goes on IL with triceps strain
The Padres placed Clevinger on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right triceps strain.
The severity of the strain isn't known, but it's not an encouraging diagnosis for a pitcher that underwent Tommy John surgery on the same arm in November 2020. With that in mind, Clevinger could end up spending more than the minimum 15 days on the shelf, as the Padres are likely to ease him back slowly even if the triceps strain proves to be a minor concern. After opening the past week in a bullpen role, MacKenzie Gore will start Sunday's game against the Giants and could effectively replace Clevinger if the Padres opt to maintain a five-man rotation. If the Padres elect to go with a six-man setup, Nick Martinez could also recapture a starting role while Clevinger is out.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Electric over five innings
Clevinger (1-0) got the win Tuesday after pitching five scoreless innings, giving up one hit while striking out five batters against the Phillies.
Clevinger limited the damage against him to just one hit, a single by Alec Bohm in the fourth frame, while snagging his first win of the year. The five innings were his longest since he made his season debut May 5 following a knee injury. It was the 31-year-old's first start this season where he didn't walk a batter. Through three starts, he has posted a 3.21 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 15 strikeouts in 14 frames. Clevinger tentatively projects to take the mound again Sunday in San Francisco.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Whiffs six in no-decision
Clevinger didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Cubs, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Clevinger put multiple runners on base in every inning except the fourth, with the big blow coming on an Alfonso Rivas two-run shot in the third. That's now two starts surrendering three runs and going fewer than five innings to open 2022, as the 31-year-old has now allowed five runs on 10 hits and five walks with 10 strikeouts in nine innings. The one positive has been pitch count as Clevinger has exceeded 90 pitches in both outings and appears to be fully recovered from his knee injury. With San Diego employing a six-man rotation, Clevinger isn't scheduled to pitch again until next week against Philadelphia.

Padres' Mike Clevinger: Works 4.2 innings in 2022 debut
Clevinger (knee) didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Guardians in Game 1 of a doubleheader after striking out four over 4.2 innings in his return from the 10-day injured list. He gave up three earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Facing off against his former organization, the right-hander was making his first appearance for the Padres since the 2020 playoffs after he was sidelined for the entire 2021 campaign following Tommy John surgery and the first month of the 2022 season due to a sprained knee. Clevinger didn't face any major restrictions in his first start with the big club, as he was lifted after tossing 95 pitches. The 31-year-old's excellent body of work in the majors makes him an interesting speculative pickup in shallower leagues where he might still be available, but he could need a few starts to sharpen his command and control coming off a lengthy layoff from game action. He threw only 54 of his 95 pitches for strikes Wednesday.
