  • Dolphins' Alec Ingold: Back at practice

Ingold (knee) practiced with the team Sunday while wearing a red no-contact jersey, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports.

Ingold tore is ACL last November before joining the Dolphins on a two-year deal in March. The 26-year-old fullback will likely be looking to create yards for others, more so than himself this season. In three years with Las Vegas, Ingold recorded 15 carries for 22 yards, plus 28 receptions on 35 targets for 239 yards and three touchdowns.

  • Dolphins' Mike Gesicki: In line for more blocking?

Gesicki has been deployed more as a blocker than as a pass catcher during the early portion of Miami's training camp, the Boston Herald reports.

Gesicki, who is in line to play out the 2022 season under the franchise tag, has been positioned in-line more often than out wide or in the slot during the early days of training camp. Few targets have gone his way so far, per camp reports. Coach Mike McDaniel's wide-zone run scheme has historically relied on a capable blocking tight end, to the tune of George Kittle (lower body) back in San Francisco, but that isn't a skill that Gesicki has been asked to feature regularly since joining the Dolphins in 2018. McDaniel said Gesicki wants to "attack blocking with a different severity than he ever has before" this offseason, and the coach mentioned that facilitating a strong rushing game will help create opportunities for the tight end in the middle of the field. Still, with both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle around to soak up passing volume, it's unclear whether Gesicki will repeat on 100-plus targets in what looks like a new role.

  • Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle: Finding success alongside Hill

Waddle and Tyreek Hill have been regularly generated explosive plays and been featured during the early days of training camp, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.

Waddle offered high praise for Hill's impact on Miami's offense, and per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, he also noted that the All-Pro wideout has taken on a "big brother" mentorship role. Wingfield stresses the new explosive dimension gifted to the Dolphins' offense by deploying Waddle and Hill in tandem, and observes that in the early days of training camp, both wideouts have benefited from the other demanding defensive attention. Hill made a handful of deep plays during Day 2 of training camp while Waddle's highlights are mostly described as involving short routes, but there's plenty of time for both to take reps all over the field before Week 1.

  • Dolphins' Tyreek Hill: Thriving early in camp

Hill has found regular success during early training camp practices while operating alongside teammate Jaylen Waddle, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.

Hill logged the highlight of training camp Day 2 by securing a 40-yard pass from Tua Tagovailoa, but both he and Waddle have been regularly featured in offensive and team drills. Both wideouts are coming off seasons of over 100 catches and 1,000 yards and are now primed to form one of the most explosive receiver tandems in NFL history. As Wingfield notes, the impact of deploying both Hill and Waddle in coach Mike McDaniel's scheme should not only regularly produce big plays, but also open up opportunities for short-area plays to generate extra yards. In any case, it's encouraging to see the chemistry Hill has established with Tagovailoa already on display.

  • Dolphins' Byron Jones: Aiming for Week 1 return

Jones (ankle) is "trying to get back for Week 1," head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday, Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Jones was placed on the active/PUP list last Friday, and underwent surgery in March to address a lingering ankle issue. It was reported then that he would be ready for training camp, but his recovery appears to be going slower than originally anticipated. Once healthy, Jones should play a prominent role in the Dolphins secondary as an every down corner.

  • Dolphins' Mohamed Sanu: Signs with Miami

Sanu signed a contract with the Dolphins on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Sanu turns 33 in August and hasn't reached 200 yards in a season since 2019. He was a functional third receiver for the 49ers before dealing with a knee injury last season, but he'll likely be lower on the depth chart in Miami so long as Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson stay healthy.
