Steelers' Najee Harris: Foot issue downplayed
Coach Mike Tomlin noted that Harris' foot got stepped on during Monday's practice, but the coach added that it "shouldn't be a major deal," Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Given Tomlin's comments, we'll consider Harris day-to-day for now. Next up for Pittsburgh's backfield reps in practice as long as Harris is sidelined or limited is Benny Snell, with Anthony McFarland, Jeremy McNichols and Mataeo Durant also in the mix.

Steelers' Chris Boswell: Gets top-of-market payday
Boswell agreed to a four-year, $20 million contract extension with the Steelers on Monday, thus tying him with Baltimore's Justin Tucker as the highest-paid kickers in league history, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Boswell was entering the final year of his current contract with Pittsburgh, so this new extension should tie him to the team for the next five seasons. The one-time Pro Bowler has been incredibly solid during his seven-year career with the Steelers, converting at least 84 percent of his field-goal attempts every season except for the 2018 campaign. Boswell is just two years removed from hitting a career-long 59-yard field goal, and he is coming off a 2021 season in which he made 36 of his 40 field-goal tries and missed just two extra points. The 31-year-old's new extension includes $12.5 million in guaranteed salary - a mark that also matches Tucker for the highest in NFL history.

Steelers' Jeremy McNichols: Bangs up shoulder
McNichols is being evaluated for a shoulder injury, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Another update on the injury will likely surface once its severity is determined. McNichols is battling for a depth role in Pittsburgh's backfield after suiting up for 30 games with the Titans over the previous two seasons.

Steelers' Najee Harris: Exits with possible foot injury
Harris left Monday's practice with an apparent left foot/ankle injury, Adam H. Beasley of Pro Football Network reports.
Harris spent some time with trainers and took off his left shoe. Assuming he misses the rest of practice, Benny Snell is next up for first-team RB reps, with other options including Anthony McFarland and Jeremy McNichols.

Steelers' Javon McKinley: Signs with Steelers
McKinley signed with the Steelers on Monday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
McKinley spent most of the 2021 season on Detroit's practice squad before being waived in May. The former Notre Dame wide receiver will be fighting an uphill battle as he tries to earn a roster spot with Pittsburgh.

Steelers' George Pickens: Impressing during camp
Pickens has been impressive over the first few days of training camp, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
Pickens was selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft and should have the opportunity to earn targets early in his rookie season because the team lost several receivers during the offseason. The 21-year-old likely will be behind Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool (shoulder) for targets to begin the regular season, but Pickens has made impressive catches over his first few practices in a Steelers uniform. Rookie Calvin Austin and veterans Miles Boykin and Anthony Miller also should be in the mix for work in Pittsburgh's passing game.

Steelers' Chase Claypool: Misses practice
Claypool (shoulder) is a non-participant at Saturday's practice, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Claypool dinged up his shoulder at Friday's practice, but the general feeling as of now is that it is not anything serious. It would not be a surprise for the Steelers to be erring on the side of caution this early on training camp. Still, consider him day-to-day going forward.

Steelers' Pat Freiermuth: Hamstring issue
Coach Mike Tomlin revealed Friday that Freiermuth is dealing with a hamstring injury, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Freiermuth was forced out of Thursday's practice early, with what was described as "some lower-body tightness." Now we know that the tight end -- who didn't practice Friday -- is managing a hamstring concern. Next up for practice reps in Freiermuth's absence are Zach Gentry, Kevin Rader and Connor Heyward.

Afterward, coach Mike Tomlin relayed that the wide receiver's shoulder issue is "probably not serious" and at this time the team doesn't have a "high level of concern" regarding the matter. With that in mind, consider Claypool day-to-day.
