Chargers' Drue Tranquill: Battling groin injury
Tranquill has missed the past two practices due to a groin injury, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Per coach Brandon Staley, the team doesn't believe Tranquill's injury is anything serious, so the linebacker will likely return to practice before long. Tranquill's expected to start in 2022 after notching 76 tackles in 14 games last season.

Chargers' Derwin James: Still not practicing
James continues to sit out practice as he awaits a contract extension, and he isn't practicing Monday as a result, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
James is healthy but opting not to practice until he and the Chargers come to terms on an extension. With mutual interest in an extension from both sides, it's likely just a matter of time until a deal is finalized and James returns to practice.

Chargers' Sage Surratt: Joins Chargers
Surratt signed with the Chargers on Sunday.
Surratt spent time with the Lions last season after going undrafted out of Wake Forest. Earlier this summer he suited up for the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL, recording 11 catches and 148 yards, while missing time with a hip flexor.

Chargers' Andrew Brown: Dealing with ankle injury
Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said Friday that Brown is dealing with an ankle injury and is considered day-to-day, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Per Popper, Brown didn't participate Friday and was spotted walking around with a crutch after practice. The 2018 fifth-round pick has appeared in nine total contests for three different teams (Bengals, Texans and Chargers) over the last three seasons.

Chargers' Isaiah Spiller: Showcasing receiving chops in camp
Spiller has impressed as a pass-catcher in training camp, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Popper also notes that Spiller has spent some time on the third-team offense early on, but the rookie out of Texas A&M is still in the running to overtake Joshua Kelley and Larry Rountree in the competition for the No. 2 spot on the Chargers' running back depth chart. In addition to making an impact in the passing game, Spiller also had the most impressive run out of the three at Wednesday's practice, so he seems to be emerging as the early leader to slot in behind Austin Ekeler on the depth chart.

Chargers' Kenneth Murray: Out for another few weeks
Coach Brandon Staley said Wednesday that Murray (ankle) should "be practicing at some point in the next four to six weeks," Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Murray missed five weeks last season with an ankle injury, so the Chargers will likely play things safe with the talented young linebacker as he rehabs from the procedure he underwent to address that back in April. The 2020 first-round pick posted 107 tackles his rookie year, so he could register fantasy-relevant tackle production in 2022 assuming he's ready to play by Week 1.

Chargers' Derwin James: Aiming for new contract
Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said Wednesday that James will be held out of practice until his contract situation is resolved, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
James was arguably the Chargers' best defensive player in 2021, registering 118 tackles, five passes defensed and two interceptions on the way to his second career Pro Bowl selection. The safety is already on the books for $9.05 million in 2022 after the Chargers exercised the team option on his rookie deal last spring, but he and the team will still have the ability to negotiate a long-term deal. James underwent surgery in February to repair a torn left labrum, but he appears to be fully recovered from that injury and shouldn't face any limitations once he reports to camp.

Chargers' Kenneth Murray: Placed on PUP list
Murray (ankle) was placed on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Murray had ankle surgery in April and has been absent from the Chargers' offseason activities, but the team was hoping he would be ready for the beginning of training camp. Murray was limited to 11 games last season due to the ankle injury and struggled to be as effective as he was in his rookie campaign. Once healthy, Murray will work to bounce back and put his disappointing second season behind him.

Chargers' Derwin James: Ready for camp
James reported to training camp Tuesday, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
As expected, the 2021 Pro Bowler made a timely recovery from the shoulder surgery he underwent early in the offseason and will participate in training camp. If he can replicate his production from last year, he'll once again be one of fantasy's best DB options in 2022 and should put himself in line for a big contract heading into 2023.
